How to Profit from Emerging Markets in Oregon
Whether you are moving to Oregon or live in Oregon it’s not a bad idea to understand what an emerging markets in Oregon are. The first time I Googled it I saw information on World markets. It’s the same thing, either on a huge stage or in your own backyard.
Since I don’t pay too much attention to emerging markets on a global level, let’s talk about the emerging markets that happen in our own back yard.
Emerging Markets
When I started researching emerging market I realized that if the internet is talking about an area or a town being an emerging market, you were too late. In order to capitalize financially on an emerging market, you need to know it is emerging before anyone else does.

So, this is how that works.
To simplify things, it’s the increased amount of jobs in an area that increases its popularity. This dynamic increases the value of homes and all real estate in that area. This can happen to a whole town as well as a certain area within a city.
Emerging Markets The Dalles
Originally, I was looking for a historic home to remodel and sell. What would be better than to find a town close where the prices were going up faster than other places.
I will demonstrate a case study I did a while back on a town in the Columbia river gorge.
The Dalles is located about an hour east of Portland on the Columbia River, just 19 miles east of Hood River. Other than the Dalles Damn, agriculture is the areas livelihood.
Then Google moved in. After learning this I started digging deeper. Google had invested 500 m in a new facility and was going through with another 500 M addition to their server farm. To go along with this, the company had also contributed to the community another 500 M for various needs.
Google is a big player.
Although this new plant of Google is not staffed heavily, the towns employment did increase and its influence will attract smaller businesses. This is where you schedule a meeting over a taco or two with the business development representative for the town. He or she will discuss what business are coming to town and offer a closer pulse on the towns development. If your town does not have this person, it’s not a good sign.
Phil Knight helped tons!
Along the way, I read that the Oregon Health Science Center had partnered with the hospital in The Dalles. Knowing that the center hung on the side of a hill in Portland and that future expansion did not seem feasible I thought the next logical place for expansion was in The Dalles. That’s what happened.
Phil Knight, Mr. Nike, then donates 1B to the Oregon Health Science Center in Portland for cancer research, WHAT! I can see now what’s happening. With the biggest increase of jobs in the next 10 years being in the medical sector and related businesses at about 21%, any investor would take a second look at this dynamic.
Remember if you can search out an emerging market on the internet, you’re too late.
Emerging Markets in Oregon are great!
