The floods were caused by the periodic rupturing of the ice dam of Glacial Lake Missoula the waters of which swept down the Columbia River and flooded the Willamette Valley as far south as Eugene. The floodwaters carried rich volcanic and glacial soil from Eastern Washington which was deposited across the valley floor when the waters subsided. Best cities in Oregon   What might be the best place to live for one person may not be the best for another. That’s why I am going to give you the best places to live in Oregon through my experience, after all I have kicked around this state for many years. Let’s start off with an unfortunate fact, Portland, Oregon is the main city in Oregon. Portland and its surrounding towns also have the majority of jobs as the city has a very big population. With a very big population you also have a traffic nightmare. If you are like me, traffic is not something that fits in to your daily ritual. Many people have been leaving the city because of increasing home prices and congestion. Best Cities in Oregon to live Salem, Oregon the capitol of the state is just 45 miles to the south. Many people have been moving here because the home prices have not been influenced by the buying frenzy that has been taking place in the Portland area for the last couple of years. The home prices in Portland shows a sellers market, as the bidding wars for homes rages on. If Portland is your destination, be very aggressive in your home purchasing, don’t drag your feet or it will be gone. Expect to pay more than list price at times. The Bend, Sisters, Redmond area of central Oregon is one of my favorite spots. The vegetation change going up and over the cascade mountain range as the rainfall decreases is apparent. Fir trees with plenty of brush in the valley turn to Pine trees and a more open understory as you go east. There is much less rainfall on the east side of the Cascade Range as most systems seem to stop at the summit. Sunshine attracts many to this area. Me included, I like the central Oregon Cities, some are the best cities in Oregon. Bend for many years has been a hot spot for new business start-ups. This could be classified as one of the best cities in Oregon. People from California have been moving here for some time, as the sunshine and outdoor activities are hard to beat. Oregon is scattered with wonderful small town, depending on what you are looking for. Just remember the further you go east the dryer it is. If you go west you run into the Pacific Ocean, and yes, thing will be wetter. In the southern part of Oregon is the Rogue River Valley. This is where Ashland and Medford are located. Ashland has the Shakespearean festival every year, attracting many to this area. With the wonderful weather, lower home prices and beautiful area, this place has lured many from California and around. Oregon is a big state, it has many things to offer. Take that a step further and try to travel around Oregon and see everything, huge chore. You realize how big of a state we have. From a geological standpoint one state is not a very big area, at least when it comes to different kinds of historic events. Back in early history  a  Lake in Missoula Montana breached when an ice bridge broke and created a flood that headed west through Washington eventually coming down the Columbia River and into the Willamette Valley. This flood pushed topsoil and sediment down the river where much rested in the Willamette Valley. This is one of the reasons the soil is so good here. The Willamette Valley has many main towns and cities in it. South to north there is Eugene, Corvallis, Albany. Lebanon, Salem, Dallas, Woodburn, Wilsonville, Beaverton, Oregon City, Hillsboro, Portland and many more. So much to choose from. Oregon has always been known for its Timber, but with the Willamette Valley and the farm land in central Oregon produce a huge amount of food. Central Oregon is also known for its Alfalfa, watermelons, grass and beef. Oregon has many different eco systems. If you are looking for the beach it is a quick 1.25 hours from Salem. If its central Oregon and the pine timber just hear east 2 hours from Salem to the town of Sisters, OR. The further east you go the dryer it gets. This all started with the popularity of Oregon in the last 4 or 5 years. The Moving to Oregon craze, the economy and a housing shortage has caused some people to look for land to build on.   WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CUSTOMER? If you’re a business owner and you are unable to explain in detail who your Ideal Customer is, I want to show you how a little knowledge will boost revenue 1600 percent. A 100 years ago Vilfredo Pareto made an intriguing observation. In Italy, where he lived, he noticed that 80% of the real estate was held by 20% of the population. There was an infomercial on about buying real estate for no money down. Heck, the no money part sounded pretty good. Having just started a remodeling business funds were a little thin. The more I watched the program the more it made sense. Heck, by the time it was finished I was convinced I could do that. So, without telling my wife I bought the course for 400.00. Back then I did not have this kind of money for a real estate course as I was raising a family. The one thing I did have was confidence in my abilities. It wasn’t long before the course came in the mail, eagerly I set down and started studying everything. After reading the books once I went back and read them again. By the time I was done, I was sure this would work so off I went into the neighborhoods looking for a property that I could buy with no money down. I think it only took me a day to find a place that I thought might have potential. It was a craftsman style home with great bones but it had 30 yards of garbage piled out behind the house and another 30 yards in the broken-down garage out back. The renter would not give me the property owners information so I went to the county to look it up. Her name was Joyce, she lived about 60 miles away and had inherited the property from her father. I knew that if I could get face to face with her there was a possibility I could buy it, come to find out she was behind on her taxes. Not only did I end up buying the old farm house that sat on an acre of land for 45,000 but later ended up buying all her property from her for about 20% of what it was worth. She owned 20 acres in the desirable community of Keizer, north of Salem, Oregon. I had just purchased 750,000 worth of land for 100,000. Remember, I had just read the course on purchasing property for no money down, I did not have to come up with much money for this purchase.
